Grants totaling $206,000 in assistance are available to communities rehabilitating their tree canopy through Alliant Energy’s Branching Out Program, a partnership with Trees Forever. The grant will fund more than 1,600 new trees in Iowa this year. Derecho-affected communities received grants of up to $10,000 to fund new tree planting in their area with assistance from an expert who created a maintenance plan for the community. Non-derecho communities, some of which were affected by the emerald ash borer, were eligible for grants up to $5,000. Branching Out launched in 1990 and has awarded nearly $7.5 million in grants to plant more than 1 million trees.
