Amazon is opening its first Iowa brick-and-mortar store next spring in Jordan Creek Town Center in West Des Moines.

Interior construction of the Amazon 4-star store is scheduled to begin this week, according to Randy Tennison, senior general manager of the regional mall that is located at 101 Jordan Creek Parkway. The store will be located in space previously occupied by Soft Surroundings, according to Tennison.

Amazon 4-star, where everything that is sold is rated four stars and above, was launched by the online retailer in fall 2018 when it opened a store in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood. Since then, the company has opened 33 stores in 17 states. Ten other stores are planned to open in the coming months, including in West Des Moines, according to the company’s website.

Amazon 4-Star stores carry a selection of the company’s most popular and top-rated items including products from electronics, toys, games, books and home goods. Items carried in the store are either an Amazon top-seller or rated at least four stars by customers.

Digital price tags next to items show the Prime and list prices, as well as Prime member savings, average star rating and total number of reviews a product has received. Customers will be able to return online orders at the store, bypassing the need for packaging and labels.
