Just shy of its 150th anniversary in Des Moines, one of the city’s oldest businesses will close its doors today for the last time.

Amend Packing Co., 410 S.E. 18th St., has processed beef for farmers and customers in Central Iowa since 1869. It’s a company that has supported five generations of the Amend family in Des Moines.
