American Equity annuity sales declined last quarter
American Equity Investment Life Holding Co. reported second-quarter 2012 operating income of $27.4 million, or 43 cents per share, compared with operating income of $29.0 million, or 45 cents per share, in the same year-ago quarter, the West Des Moines-based company said in a news release. Annuity sales dropped to $917 million from $979 million in the first quarter of the year. Invested assets increased 20 percent to $25.4 billion in the year ended June 30. Book value grew to $16.34 from $16.24 the previous quarter and from $16.09 on Dec. 31.
