Ankeny man wins Iowa Job Honor Award
The Iowa Job Honor Awards, an initiative aimed at recognizing Iowans who have overcome significant barriers to employment, has announced its top honorees for 2015. Winners included Edward Ailey-Roberson of Ankeny, a former Marine. After his father’s murder, Ailey-Roberson fought alcoholism and drug abuse. He ended up in prison for his involvement in a fatal fight. “In prison,” said Ailey-Roberson, “I received clarity. I began to comply with the program and see the benefits of being clean and sober.” After his release, Ailey-Roberson was counseled by advisers at Central Iowa Shelter & Services and Veterans Affairs, who helped him find employment with a Des Moines manufacturer.
