Ankeny utility franchise fee to begin
An ordinance establishing a 2 percent utility franchise fee for Ankeny businesses and homeowners will go into effect in May. An ordinance approved by the Ankeny City Council in January established the franchise fee, which will generate an estimated $800,000 annually to fund nine firefighter positions. Residential gas and electric customers will pay approximately $34 per year on average, and a commercial business $165 per year on average.
