Applications open for DMACC TechWise program

208 wordsAll Latest News, Education, Innovation and EntrepreneurshipThe deadline to apply for the third cohort of Des Moines Area Community College’s TechWise program, which is scheduled to begin in March 2024, is Jan. 9, 2024. The training is free, and all students are awarded $4,250 to participate. During the program, DMACC computer science students are selected to participate in 18 months of professionally led training for about 10 to 12 hours a week, supplementing traditional coursework. DMACC graduated 13 students in the first cohort during the fall semester and currently has 32 students participating in the second cohort. DMACC was one of the first colleges in the country to be selected to offer the TechWise program, a Google-backed tech education program. The program recently received the Outstanding Innovation Award from the Community Colleges for Iowa for offering a unique training opportunity for students, the release said. “TalentSprint’s TechWise program has offered our students accelerated extracurricular education and experience that rivals an internship,” DMACC computer science district chair Michelle Ruse said in a press release. “Students in the DMACC IT programs who also attend TechWise find themselves challenged by the supplemental instruction while building skill sets for their future careers.” Some students elect to earn DMACC credit while in the TechWise program.” To apply, click here.
