An index of billings to architect firms recorded its highest January score since 2007, according to a release. The American Institute of Architects said the index, which provides an indication of construction spending in nine to 12 months, was 54.7 in January, up from 52.8 in December. Any score about 50 indicates an increase in billings. Inquiries about new projects measured 61.1 last month, down from 62 in December. Contracts for new designs increased slightly to 53.9 from 53.4. “Healthy conditions continue to remain strong in the Midwest and in Iowa,” AIA Iowa Executive Director Jessica Reinert said in a release. “With strong billings and healthy growth in new projects to start the year, firms remain generally optimistic about business conditions for the next several months.”
