The tours will start at the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center, 1200 Grand Ave., with check-in starting at 5 p.m. and tours at 5:30 p.m. One tour will be led by guides who have firsthand experience in the design efforts to redevelop the area and will focus on Western Gateway Park and its surroundings, including key buildings such as Krause Gateway Center and the Temple for Performing Arts. The other tour will focus on the history of the buildings along Locust Street that made up what was known as Auto Row, including Herring Motor Car, Kruidenier Cadillac, the Studebaker Corp. branch office, the Clemens Building and others. Participants will learn about architectural detail, style and elements, along with intriguing facts, stories and the historical significance of the buildings that shape the downtown skyline. Tickets are $15 per person and can be purchased on Eventbrite or at the door. If you register at the door, please pay by check or cash.
