The Athene USA Charitable Foundation, through its signature Coats & Boots program, last week donated more than 1,600 coats and winter boots to all students at Cattell, McKinley, Howe and Studebaker Elementary schools in Greater Des Moines. Nearly 60 Athene employees volunteered to help with the program. The four schools were selected because nearly 95% of the students at the schools are eligible to receive the free and reduced-price lunch program, indicating they serve some of the metro’s families who have the most need for this support. “It is truly gratifying to provide these kids with the essential items to get through Iowa’s harsh winter weather,” said Grant Kvalheim, president and CEO of Athene USA in West Des Moines. Longtime partners J.C. Penney and Shoe Carnival provided the new coats and boots at a discount to the foundation.
