AT&T Inc. announced yesterday that it has invested more than $125 million in its Iowa wireless and wireline networks from 2009 through 2011.

During 2011, the company made nearly 400 wireless network upgrades in the state and completed 150,000 network enhancements across the country. AT&T had plans to drastically increase 4G wireless coverage in the state as part of its proposed acquisition of T-Mobile USA Inc.

The acquisition fell through, but the company still has a goal to expand 4G coverage to 80 percent of the state by 2013.

AT&T officials applaud a decision reached by Congress that will allow the Federal Communications Commission to auction radio frequencies currently held by television broadcasters and allow wireless companies to purchase them.
