Baker Group is opening a 90,000-square-foot facility in Altoona as it expands its off-site modular prefabrications operation.

In a news release, officials with Baker said the new facility brings to 239,000 square feet of space the company has dedicated to its modular operation, helping to accelerate project delivery and enhancing operational efficiency with real-time process monitoring and timely deliveries.

The Altoona facility, at 2770 21st St. N.W., will be a central hub for Baker Group’s modular prefabrication operations and facilitate design collaboration, quality assurance and accelerate construction schedules for building owners across the country, the news release states.

“The launch of our new dedicated facility marks a pivotal enhancement in our modular construction capabilities,” Rob Cross, chief operating officer at Baker Group, said in the release. “By scaling up our production capacity and streamlining our processes, we are not only speeding up project delivery but also optimizing the skill set of our talented workforce.”

The facility will be equipped with 24-by-23-foot bay doors to accommodate a wide range of modular sizes. It also features the ability to handle and transport modules weighing more than 77,000 pounds nationwide.

“This dedicated facility marks a significant leap forward,” Brandon Hummel, executive vice president of pre-construction at Baker Group, said in the release. “It will not only support increased production but also diversify our range of prefabricated modules, enabling us to meet varied project requirements and adapt to shifting industry trends.”
