Bank of America ends its “zombie accounts”
Consumers Union praised Bank of America Corp. this week for announcing that it will no longer reopen accounts that have been closed by customers. The so-called zombie accounts, accounts that have been reopened without notifying customers can result in customers unknowingly being charged hundreds of dollars in penalty fees or even monthly maintenance fees. Consumers Union decried the practice in its May 2012 report Trapped At The Bank.
