Link Associates, a community-based nonprofit that provides services for people with intellectual disabilities, broke ground this morning on a new 1,400-square-foot, fully handicapped-accessible house in Des Moines that will become home for four Link clients. The nonprofit is partnering with Bankers Trust on the house at 1424 E. 25th St. It will be named the Bankers Trust – Gehm Legacy Home in honor of Tim Gehm, who died in March 2018 after a battle with liver cancer. Gehm was vice president and finance manager at Bankers Trust, where he had worked for 28 years. He was also a member of the Link Associates board and Link Foundation board. Bankers Trust made a significant donation in Gehm’s name toward the construction of the home. “Tim was a great leader and his impact continues to be felt at Bankers Trust,” said Don Coffin, president and CEO and of Bankers Trust. “And, while Tim achieved many impressive accomplishments during his time with the bank, what we remember and miss most about him is his friendship, the kindness he showed others and his love for his family and the community.” Tanzanite Homes and Coldwell Banker, Mid-America Group Realtors are also partners in the house, which is expected to be completed in spring 2020.
