The Iowa Bankers Association and its affiliate Iowa Bankers Insurance and Services Inc. plan to build a two-story, 60,000-square-foot office building in Urbandale’s Northpark Business Park, documents submitted to the state and city of Urbandale show.

Project costs are estimated at $19.6 million.

The association provides advocacy, education and public awareness activities, according to information submitted to the Iowa Economic Development Board. Iowa Bankers Insurance and Services offers property and casualty insurance to Midwestern banks as an insurance agency and administers a self-funded health multiple employer welfare arrangement.

The state board last week awarded $710,800 in tax benefits to the project through Iowa’s High Quality Jobs Program.

The two groups, which now have 196 workers, are expected to create 18 new jobs, 12 of which will pay at least $30.98 an hour, state documents show.

The brick and glass building is planned on 6 acres at 8901 Northpark Drive, city documents show. The site will include 306 parking spaces. The project is expected to receive $1.6 million from the city of Urbandale through a tax increment finance rebate.

The Urbandale City Council on Tuesday approved the site plan for the project.

Construction of the building is expected to begin in August and be completed by September 2021.
