Big Grove Brewery opened its grant application window this week for six grants totaling $48,000 that will be awarded to nonprofits in Polk, Johnson and Linn counties. Nonprofits can apply for grants through Dec. 31, and recipients will be selected by Feb. 15, 2024. Charities that demonstrate how the donation will have a direct influence, or are trying to get their nonprofit up and running, will be provided special consideration, according to a news release. Two organizations in each of the three counties will receive an $8,000 grant and work in partnership with Big Grove Brewery. The brewery’s primary giving tenets focus on environmental, equity and equality causes and neighborhood backyard nonprofits where taprooms are located, according to the release. Big Grove awarded four $8,000 grants for the 2023 year to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa, Central Iowa Shelter and Services, the Iowa City Free Lunch Program and the Iowa City Coralville (ICOR) Boxing Club.
