Bike ride aimed at female riders
The Des Moines Bicycle Collective will host its first Women Rolling Collectively Ride With Her event Oct 1. The ride, which begins at 9 a.m. at the Women of Achievement Bridge downtown, will offer a 15-mile and a 30-mile route along trails to encourage and enlist female bike riders. According to the League of American Bicyclists, female riders make up only 24 percent of bike trips nationally. “Getting women on bikes is vital if Central Iowa’s cycling community is going to grow and prosper,” said Jeremy Lewis, the collective’s executive director. The ride will include stops that offer basic bicycle maintenance and advice from experienced female riders. Tickets for the event are $25.
