The Iowa Hospital Association’s point man at the statehouse for the past two decades is moving on. Greg Boattenhamer, the IHA’s senior vice president of government relations and advocacy, announced he will leave the organization on Dec. 16. “I’ve been here 30 years and I think it’s just time to find some new adventures while I’m still young enough to do that,” said Boattenhamer, 58. He joined the organization in 1986 as communication director. “I think we’ve accomplished a lot in this time to the benefit of Iowans and the Iowa health care system. Probably the biggest accomplishment was Medicaid expansion three years ago. It provides health insurance to about 130,000 Iowans who previously didn’t have it, reduced charity care expenses to Iowa hospitals, and provided incentives to improve the health of Iowans who are covered.” Lobbying for the IHA will now be handled by Natalie Ginty, director of government relations and staff legal counsel, and Kimberly Murphy, director of government relations and staff attorney. Maureen Keehnle, senior vice president and chief counsel, will take over both state and federal government relations responsibilities. Boattenhamer has launched a health care consulting firm, Bottom Line Strategies, and will also teach a health care administration course this spring at Simpson College.
