Bravo Greater Des Moines has awarded more than $935,000 for the second grant funding cycle of 2021. According to a news release, that brings total investments in Cultural Leadership Grants, Cultural Enrichment Grants and Culture Program Grants for the year to more than $3.3 million. The grants help support general operating expenses and programs of 73 arts, cultural and heritage programs in Central Iowa. Bravo relies on local hotel/motel tax revenue for 99% of its annual budget, and despite substantial declines in that revenue during the pandemic, 100% of its grant commitments have been honored this year, leaders with the organization said. “For over 15 years, Bravo’s has been the region’s leading investor in the outstanding work being done by our community’s cultural partners,” said Sally Dix, Bravo’s executive director. “The funds we have been able to award on behalf of our local government partners is essential to the vibrant cultural community that Greater Des Moines offers to residents and visitors.” Bravo grants are funded by 17 local government partners that each contribute part of their hotel/motel tax revenue, which is then invested in arts, cultural and heritage organizations and programs.
