Business Record names EMC’s Nigut HR Professional of the Year

336 wordsAll Latest News, BPC News Releases, HR and Leadership, Lift IOWAThe Business Record has named Beth Nigut, executive vice president and chief people officer at EMC Insurance Cos., as its first annual Davis Brown Law Firm Human Resources Professional of the Year.
“Beth is a strategic thinker and change agent, with an incredible amount of business acumen,” Scott Jean, EMC president and CEO, wrote in her nomination letter. “She is also an engaged community leader who is a strong advocate for Des Moines and Central Iowa and its vulnerable populations.”
Nigut has worked in HR leadership roles for EMC since 2010. Before that, she was general counsel for Des Moines Independent Community School District and an associate at Bradshaw, Fowler, Proctor and Fairgrave, P.C. She holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Simpson College and her law degree from Drake University.
The new award, designed to highlight an outstanding HR professional from Central Iowa for their professional accomplishments and community engagement, will be featured during the Business Record’s next Newsroom 515 event. The event is set for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 14; it will be held virtually and is free to attend. A full story on Nigut will run in the Nov. 6 issue of the Business Record.
Nigut was involved in the brainstorming and creation of the Drake University Executive Leadership Program, focused on leaders seeking transformation and accelerated growth. It features executive coaching and two highly interactive classroom weeks that focus on Leader Readiness, Leader Development, Organization Performance and Leadership Sustainability.
Nigut also serves on the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s board of directors and executive committee, as well as chairing its talent development committee. Additionally, she serves on the Iowa State Bank board of directors and is a board member for Please Pass the Love, among other community involvements. She’s also involved in several legal industry organizations.
