HNI Corp. yesterday announced that its board of directors declared a quarterly dividend of 21.5 cents per share on its common stock. The dividend will be payable on May 30 to shareholders of record at the close of business on May 16.

Comprehensive Benefits Agency and Group Benefits Ltd., both Iowa-based health and benefits-related insurance brokers, have merged to expand their presence nationwide. The new company will be called Group Benefits Ltd. and will focus on recruiting agents in other areas of the country.

Des Moines Area Community College will roll back its tuition increase by $3 per credit hour for the 2008-09 academic year. The new rate will be $107 per credit hour, giving DMACC one of the lowest tuition rates of any post-secondary school in Iowa. Gov. Chet Culver and the legislature approved a $9.1 million appropriation increase for community colleges, more than the amount proposed earlier in the session, which led to the tuition rollback. The DMACC board had increased tuition by $8 a credit hour to $110, based on earlier projections.

The dollar rose against the euro and the yen as Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City President Thomas Hoenig said inflation may prompt policy-makers to raise interest rates and European retail sales dropped by a record in March. The dollar increased 0.9 percent against the Euro to $1.5392 per euro in early trading from $1.5532 yesterday. The U.S. currency rose 0.6 percent to 105.36 yen, from 104.77.
