By the numbers: July Fourth
This week, millions of Americans fired up the grill, gazed at fireworks displays and left town to celebrate July Fourth. A National Retail Federation survey conducted by research group BIGinsight spoke with 8,760 Americans from June 5 to June 12 to gauge consumers’ holiday plans.

The number of Americans who had planned to attend a cookout this July Fourth. The pork used in more than 33 percent of all hot dogs consumed during the holiday originated in Iowa.
115 million
The number of people who had planned to go to a fireworks display or community celebration. Another 35 million watched a parade.

The number of Americans who had planned to buy patriotic merchandise.

The number of people who had planned to leave town for a few days.
