Can Play, a nonprofit that provides adaptive recreation programs for children, will host a 10-year anniversary celebration on June 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the MidAmerican West Des Moines RecPlex. The free community event will feature group games, snacks, prizes and fun for the entire family. Can Play was formed in 2021 with the combination of Courage League Sports and Opportunity on Deck, which both launched in 2012 as separate organizations with similar missions. Can Play’s mission is to bring play and recreation to more people by offering adaptive and no-cost recreation activities to communities throughout Iowa. Last year, Can Play served more than 15,000 children with its programs removing barriers to play that include financial,  physical, cognitive or emotional challenges.
