Cargill to begin marketing glucosamine to Generation Y
Regenasure glucosamine is produced by Cargill in Iowa, according to a release.
Cargill made the announcement today at the Institute of Food Technologists Food Expo in Las Vegas. The company said it has seen consumer studies that found that Generation Y is more likely to purchase functional foods and that 59 percent purchase glucosamine products for general health purposes, according to the National Health Institute.
“Gen Y, with an estimated $3.4 trillion in buying power by 2018, tends to be very proactive when it comes to their health,” said Chuck Ray, technical services manager at Cargill Corn Milling, in a release. “This science is helping us understand how glucosamine may play a role in maintaining healthy joints.”
Cargill is the only company in the United States to produce glucosamine. Regenasure is also vegetarian and kosher, according to the company’s website.
