Casey’s General Stores is seeking $5.7 million in state and local incentives for a $34.7 million project that includes renovations and new construction at its Ankeny headquarters, a project that is expected to create 101 jobs over three years. The Iowa Economic Development Authority Board will vote Friday on a $4 million incentive package consisting of $3 million in investment tax credits and $989,250 in refunds of sales, service and use taxes, according to a report to the board. The city of Ankeny has approved $1.7 million in tax increment financing rebates and property tax abatements. Casey’s plans a renovation of its headquarters building and a 60,000-square-foot, two-story office building as an addition to its corporate campus. Of the 101 new jobs, 81 would pay an hourly wage of $29.12 as a result of the incentives. The renovation is expected to begin this spring and conclude in the fourth quarter. The new construction is expected to start this spring and finish in the fourth quarter of 2019. Casey’s currently employs 860 people at the Ankeny’s headquarters, Ankeny Economic Development Director Derek Lord said. That figure does not include warehouse workers and truck drivers. The company is among the three largest private employers in the city.
