Casey’s General Stores Inc. today announced that it has an agreement to purchase 49 convenience stores in Oklahoma from Circle K Stores Inc. in an all-cash transaction for $39 million. Casey’s headquarters is in Ankeny. The transaction with Circle K includes 46 leased properties and three owned properties. The transaction is expected to close in the fiscal quarter that ends July 31. Circle K began in 1951 when its founder purchased three food stores in El Paso, Texas. By 1975, there were more than 1,000 Circle Ks across the U.S., according to the company’s website. In 2003, Circle K was acquired by Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc., a Canadian convenience store chain company with stores located worldwide.
