Census Bureau shows Des Moines has more than 14,000 private-sector businesses
This week, the Census Bureau released data showing the number of private-sector businesses in metropolitan areas.
Naturally, the New York City area had the most, with 531,446 private-sector business establishments in 2009, the most recent year for which official figures are available.
Other cities to make it in the top five: Los Angeles (333,006), Chicago (237,245), Miami-Fort Lauderdale (169,725) and Philadelphia (145,714). Des Moines came in at No. 84 with 14,889 businesses.
