Census data show Des Moines incomes rising, poverty rates declining

But Iowans still earn less than the U.S. median income. The state’s median household income was $58,570 last year — a 4.12 percent increase over the previous year, the data show. But when factoring in inflation, Iowans actually saw incomes increase about 1.6 percent. Meanwhile, U.S. incomes rose 1.8 percent to an all-time high of $61,372 last year.
