Any U.S. citizens with high achievements in citizen diplomacy work may be nominated. Nominations will be reviewed by an advisory committee made up of leaders from the education, corporate and nonprofit sectors, who will select six award winners in categories that will include business, education and non-governmental/community based organizations. One of the six awards will be presented to a person between the ages of 18 and 21.

Seven Iowa organizations were honored last year during the first awards ceremony, among them Iowa Sister States and the Greater Des Moines Sister Cities Commission. The awards are meant to honor activities that have increased understanding, strengthened ties, promoted international cooperation or developed peaceful relations between the people of the United States and other countries. The accomplishments must have taken place since January 2006, and nominations must be received by Nov. 1.
