The American Diabetes Association is inviting riders of all abilities to take part in the annual Central Iowa Tour de Cure, a cycling event happening on June 6, starting at the YMCA Healthy Living Center in Clive. The event will raise funds to change the future of diabetes. The 25-, 50-, and 75-mile routes on the Raccoon River Valley Trail will feature rest stops with food to fuel the journey and volunteers to cheer riders on. Red Riders, cyclists who have diabetes, will receive VIP recognition. Diabetes affects 225,000 Iowans, and the number of cases is growing at near-epidemic proportions, said Doug Bickford, the association’s executive director. “The need for funds has never been greater,” he said. To register, cyclists or volunteers can call the American Diabetes Association toll-free at 888-342-2383 or click here.
