CenturyLink quarterly earnings down 40 percent
CenturyLink Inc., the nation’s third-largest telephone company, reported third-quarter net income of $140 million, or 23 cents per share, compared with $232 million, or 76 cents per share, for third quarter of 2010. The results reflect after-tax costs of $20 million, or 7 cents per share, related to its acquisitions of three companies, among them Denver-based Qwest Communications International Inc., in the past year. CenturyLink, which has approximately 1,500 Iowa employees, reported operating revenues of $4.6 billion on a consolidated basis in the third quarter, compared with $1.7 billion in the previous third quarter.

The results reflect after-tax costs of $20 million, or 7 cents per share, related to its acquisitions of three companies, among them Denver-based Qwest Communications International Inc., in the past year.

CenturyLink, which has approximately 1,500 Iowa employees, reported operating revenues of $4.6 billion on a consolidated basis in the third quarter, compared with $1.7 billion in the previous third quarter. 

“Increases in strategic revenues, primarily driven by growth in high-speed Internet customers, data services demand from business customers and data transport demand from wireless providers were more than offset by declines in legacy services and other revenues primarily due to the impact of access line losses and lower access revenues,” CenturyLink said in a release.
