According to a news release, the grant will match dollar-for-dollar donations received in 2021 and 2022 to replace trees throughout the city of Grinnell. The grants will help residents purchase and plant new trees, often at no cost or a significant discount to the property owner. City officials estimate that more than 1,400 trees, or about 40% of the city’s trees, have been lost because of the Aug. 10, 2020, storm, and the effects of the emerald ash borer.
