Chicago No. 2 in foreclosures last year

In 2010, lenders repossessed more homes in and around Chicago than they did in all but one other U.S. metropolitan area, Crain’s Chicago Business reported. According to a report released Thursday by RealtyTrac Inc., an online listing service for distressed real estate, lenders took back 45,555 properties in the Chicago area last year, a 20 percent increase from 2009. The most U.S. repossessions last year were in the Phoenix area with 55,372. Detroit ranked third with 43,541.
