City of Ankeny invites public to Northwestern Trailhead ribbon-cutting

116 wordsAll Latest News, Arts and CultureThe city of Ankeny is inviting the public to a ribbon-cutting on Sept. 18 for the Northwestern Trailhead, a new addition to the High Trestle Trail. The new trailhead connects Ankeny to the High Trestle Trail and aims to enhance the trail experience. The trailhead features an interactive public artwork by artist Matthew Mazzotta as well as a restroom, a hydration station and a bike repair station. The Northwestern Trailhead is named after the historic Chicago Northwestern Railroad, which formerly operated as a passenger rail line on the High Trestle Trail in the late 1800s, connecting Ankeny to Des Moines and Ames. The event will start at 4 p.m. at 2125 N.W. Irvinedale Drive.
