An additional $383,000 in federal and state Hazard Mitigation Grant funds have bumped up the initial $1.25 million set aside in Clive’s 2018 Flood Prone Property Buyout Program, allowing the city to pay owners 110% of the 2018 Polk County Assessor’s total value of their properties. Based on research from FEMA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Clive estimates the financial benefit of mitigating flood risk on the 10 properties is more than $5 million in avoided property damages and associated costs. The city plans to have all properties demolished by the end of 2019.
