Co-founder of Kragie/Newell Advertising dies

The co-founder of Kragie/Newell Advertising died on May 17, according to an obituary in the Des Moines Register. John “Jack” Hyland Kragie Jr. founded the company with Liz Newell in 1977. The couple would have celebrated their 46th wedding anniversary on May 21, according to the obituary. The couple’s advertising agency was headquartered at the Butler Mansion, the iconic white concrete building at 2633 Fleur Drive that overlooks Gray’s Lake. Kragie graduated from Drake University in 1965. He and his wife made a $150,000 gift to Drake that was used to create the Kragie Newell Interactive Media Lab for journalism students. Kragie/Newell Advertising, which became part of the Integer Group in the 1990s, was sold to Omnicom in 2000, according to the obituary.
