Coach USA seeks drivers
Coach USA is feeling the same pain as many carriers and bus companies — a shortage of drivers. Spokesman Sean Hughes, in Des Moines to speak to a conference Friday, said Coach USA, which is the parent company of Megabus.com, could use 150 more qualified drivers. So the company is reaching out to military veterans, hoping they can help. He wasn’t aware of the Home Base Iowa program that is encouraging veterans to work in Iowa. Hughes also said the Megabus expansion to Davenport in January is going well, and the Greater Des Moines service has a $1.9 million a year economic impact. He declined to share ridership numbers publicly. Megabus.com, which is approaching its fifth anniversary in Des Moines, runs between Omaha and Chicago via Des Moines, Iowa City and Davenport. Here’s our earlier take on the company’s limited $1 fares on BusinessRecord.com.
