Several construction trade associations have joined with the Iowa Civil Rights Commission to advocate for fair housing accessibility in Iowa. The Iowa chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the Home Builders Association of Greater Des Moines, the Iowa Association of Building Officials and the nonprofit planning and design consulting group Safe Building Compliance & Technology want to help design professionals, developers, builders and contractors understand the special needs and design features to assist people with disabilities under the Fair Housing Act, according to a release. The group will host a daylong training event on fair housing and accessibility on May 21 at Prairie Meadows Racetrack and Casino. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will provide an instructor and materials for the training. Click here for more information and to register. Registration is full but wait list reservations are being taken.
