Collaborative is awarded $350K to improve community college transfer experience
The Iowa Private Transfer Collaborative, consisting of 17 Iowa nonprofit colleges and universities along with two nonprofit organizations focused on Iowa higher education, has received a three-year grant from the Arthur Vining Davis Foundations and the Teagle Foundation. The $350,000 grant is part of the Transfer Pathways to the Liberal Arts initiative. Its aim is to enhance transparency, affordability and coordination in transferring from community colleges to private colleges or universities in Iowa. The grant is intended to facilitate curricular bridge-building, ensure seamless credit transfer, and improve retention rates for transfer students. The IPTC intends to expand program offerings, establish transfer credit policies and create a centralized student transfer information website. The grant will also support the hiring of a project director. The initiative is aligned with the foundations’ commitment to providing a liberal arts education to historically marginalized students. The grant comes at a time when Iowa community college enrollment has increased, differing from the national trend. The IPTC joins other states in opening transfer pathways to liberal arts degrees for community college students.
