Commission nominates 3 people for Iowa Supreme Court vacancy

114 wordsAll Latest News, Government Policy and LawThree people have been nominated by the State Judicial Nominating Commission to fill a vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court. The nominees are: Alan Heavens of Garnavillo, a district judge in the 1st Judicial District; David May of Polk City, an Iowa Court of Appeals judge; and William Miller, an attorney with Dorsey & Whitney LLP in Des Moines. The commission met on Monday to interview five applicants for the vacancy that will occur when Justice Brent Appel retires in July. Following the interviews, the commission deliberated and selected a slate of three nominees from the group. The slate was sent to Gov. Kim Reynolds, who has 30 days to appoint a new judge.
