Twelve Iowans will be interviewed by the State Judicial Nominating Commission in January to fill the vacancy on the Iowa Supreme Court that occurred upon the death of Chief Justice Mark Cady. The 17-member commission will meet on Jan. 9 in the Iowa Supreme Court Courtroom on the fourth floor of the Judicial Branch Building to interview the applicants for the vacancy. The interviews are open to the public and will also be livestreamed. The commission welcomes written comments prior to the interviews about the qualifications of any of the applicants. Comments must be emailed no later than 5 p.m. on Jan. 7. Once the commission forwards a slate of three nominees to Gov. Kim Reynolds, she will have 30 days to appoint the new justice.
