The Des Moines Playhouse will host a community conversation on Saturday on trends in theaters and what patrons of community theater can expect in the future. The conversation will be led by guest director Ken-Matt Martin, whose talk is titled “A Hot Take on the Current State of Theatre.” The conversation is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the playhouse. It is free and open to the public. Martin will discuss industry trends, and changes happening in professional theaters that will eventually occur in regional, community, university and high school theaters. Martin is currently directing the Pyramid Theatre Company/Des Moines Playhouse co-production of August Wilson’s “The Piano Lesson.” Wilson has worked at theaters across the country and was recently appointed the interim artistic director of Baltimore Center Stage.
