Consulting group aims to ‘kick’ high group health rates
Rick Riley knows that, when it comes to group health insurance rates, small and mid-size groups can often feel like sitting ducks when it’s time to renew policies. For many companies, premium increases at renewal have been a given, and the only way to take a stand was to change brokers or carriers.
That’s why Riley, a former underwriting executive for Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, formed Kick Health Consulting, a consulting group that works with smaller companies to secure fair group health rates.
The company’s group of actuarial and underwriting executives reviews rate renewal notices of small to mid-size companies nationwide at no cost. If, after reviewing a rate notice, they feel a company’s rate increase is unjustified, they’ll help the company negotiate with the carrier for a lower rate.
“Larger groups have always had access to this kind of consulting service, but now it’s being made available to groups of all sizes,” Riley said in a release.
If Kick Health helps a company secure a lower rate, it collects 33 percent of the first year’s savings and the client company keeps the rest. If Kick Health cannot help the company secure a lower rate, the company owes nothing. The company does not have to change brokers or carriers to use the service.
