A group of preservationists recently hit its goal of raising $2.3 million to reclaim and repurpose the rusty green bridge that once extended Southwest Fifth Street across the Raccoon River for vehicle traffic. The bridge was shut down for safety reasons in 2013 after only serving pedestrians and cyclists in its later years. Now it will be revived for that same purpose.
