A coalition of civil rights and worker safety organizations has launched a public petition calling for Tyson managers in Waterloo, Columbus Junction, Storm Lake and Perry to immediately pay employees who have missed work due to COVID-19-related causes, the Iowa Council for Worker Safety announced this week. Tyson employees have reported struggling to get sick pay after they or members of their family have been infected with the novel coronavirus, and Tyson has not disclosed full COVID-19 safety and paid leave policies, the organization says. The new Iowa Council for Worker Safety is supported by 15 statewide labor, faith and civil rights organizations; the full petition is available online.
