Community leaders will hoist the newly reinstated Des Moines city flag featuring the river bridges at a ceremony at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Krause Gateway Center. Part of the celebration is Krause’s one-year anniversary in the building. The flag was officially adopted in April of 1974. By 1975, it was flown outside many businesses and residences across the city. However, by the 1990s, production of the flag stopped. In 2008, the flag was phased out as the city adopted a new logo. Twenty years later, wife-and-husband team Emily and Mason Kessinger spearheaded efforts to bring the flag back via social media and pop-up stores. The City Council voted to reinstate the popular symbol.
