The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority has extended its half fare program through June 30, 2022. According to a news release, the DART board voted to extend the program after seeing its success in helping increase access to transportation. During the pilot program, people who received food assistance, participated in workforce training programs or received unemployment benefits qualified for the half fare program. With the extension of the program through next June, those who receive housing assistance through the Housing Choice Voucher program are now qualified to get a half fare ID, allowing them to pay half the cost to ride DART. People can apply for the half fare program at DART’s customer service window at the DART Central Station, 620 Cherry St. in Des Moines. DART can also enable participants to buy half-price passes on the MyDART app.
