Deere lays off 220 at Moline plant
Deere & Co. this morning said it has informed approximately 220 employees at John Deere Seeding and Cylinder in Moline, Ill., that they will be placed on indefinite layoff, effective Feb. 15. Employees were informed of the layoff today in meetings at the Moline facility. The indefinite layoffs, with no specific callback date, reflect last week’s forecast by Deere that agricultural machinery sales will decrease in fiscal year 2016. Deere said the actions are taken to align the size of the manufacturing workforce at individual factories with market demand for the products made at each specific location. In September, Deere announced layoffs at another of its Quad Cities facilities, with 150 laid off from its Harvester Works in East Moline, Ill.
