Delta Dental of Iowa has added emergency virtual visits as an added benefit for its members, the Johnston-based insurer announced. The new coverage is delivered by TeleDentistry.com and is being added at no additional cost to members. “TeleDentistry.com creates a safety net for Delta Dental of Iowa members to know that they have coverage beyond standard dental office hours when their dentist may not be available or when they are traveling,” said Jeff Russell, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Iowa. Virtual visits may eliminate the need for many emergency room visits. The TeleDentistry.com dentist will provide an initial consultation and can write prescriptions when appropriate. If additional dental care is needed, TeleDentistry.com will refer the member to a Delta Dental network dentist for definitive diagnosis and treatment.
