Des Moines airport is $644 million-a-year business
Des Moines International Airport supported 7,156 jobs with an annual payroll of $271 million and gave the economy a $644 million-a-year boost, consultants CDM Smith reported this week.
Since a similar report in 2007, the airport’s employment has grown by 31 percent, payroll rose 35 percent and the economic output of the airport grew by 23 percent, mostly because the number of passengers has risen, the consultants found.
From 2007 to 2014, enplanements grew from 963,231 to 1,157,235. They grew an average of 4.6 percent a year, and by 20 percent since 2007.
The seven airlines offer a combined 49 daily departures to 18 nonstop destinations.
